Description
This photos was taken in the Indian Canyons in Palm Springs, California. These are replicas of traditional Cahuilla family dwellings was called a kish. In early years these structures were usually circular shelters made of palm fronds and brush built over a scooped-out hollow in the ground. These dwellings stayed relatively cool even in the hottest weather. The inside stayed dark with natural light filtered in only through the doorway. A village was comprised of several kishes.
