I found this beauty in the little town of Wickenburg, Arizona. This is one of several Fish hook barrel cacti planted in a small park in the center of the Historic District. Fish hook barrel cacti are very plentiful in the Sonoran Desert of southeastern Arizona.
As an essentially self-taught artist, I have found my own truths and artistic paths. I am naturally curious and fervid about understanding new techniques, making the self-learning process a challenge I enjoy. Through the years, I have studied printmaking, drawing, painting, and graphic design, and I feel fortunate to have had a very successful career in that extremely competitive field. Thanks again. I am looking forward to picking out my desert plants for our new home.

Golden barrel cactus are native to Mexico, but are harvested and offered at many nurseries, as are other native barrels from Mexico.. There are quite a variety of barrel cactus. The fishhook variety grows naturally in the Sonoran Desert, also called Arizona Barrel cactus. I am glad to be of help.

Very artistic, colors blend beautifully.

Janet, I have corrected the cactus species thanks to your information. I really appreciate this. I am used to seeing Golden Barrel Cactus in California which are round and low in height.

This is a barrel cactus, not a saguaro cactus. But it is a great find. Fish hook barrel cactus are very plentiful in the Sonoran Desert of southeastern Arizona. One of my favorites to photograph during the flowering season of the summer monsoon. Notice the fruits that come after they bloom. I haven’t driven through Wickenburg in 16 years. The Saguaro cactus doesn’t grow outside the Sonoran Desert. Wickenburg is between the northern most edge of the Sonoran Desert and the Mojave Desert. So the foothills south of there, would have tall Saguaros. LF Janet 💕
